Taconic Music and Manchester Community Library present a special event with music and poetry from around the world on Saturday, October 21 at 2pm. Members of Southern Vermont’s vibrant international community will speak briefly about their personal journeys to the United States. Maxine Linehan (Ireland), Alix Marie (Burkina Faso), Maud Maciak (France), Hubert Schriebl (Austria), Joana Genova (Bulgaria), Chie Kagawa-Addington (Japan) and Pia Tamariz (Ecuador) will read a poem in their native tongue, along with a translation in English. Music from each country or continent—some traditional melodies, some pieces by classical composers such as Mozart and Ravel—will be paired with each poem and performed by Taconic Chamber Players (Joana Genova and Heather Braun, violins; Ariel Rudiakov, viola and Nathaniel Parke, cello). The program is funded by an Arts Project Grant from the Vermont Arts Council.
