Winter In Manchester

As the holidays round the corner, our quaint little town of Manchester, Vermont is bustling with safe ways to shop, dine, explore, and unwind! We’ve put together some of our favorite things to do in and around Manchester while taking in the winter wonder of the woods, mountains, and village that makes Manchester—MAGIC!

From December 5th through January 1st the Hildene mansion comes alive for their annual “Christmas Eve in 1912.” Enjoy a snowshoe hike across the grounds and meadows of Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home. Rentals are available on site. After falling in love with the sport, you can head downtown to pick up your own pair of snowshoes from The Mountain Goat and head over to the trails around Equinox Preserve for another magical winter hike. Well-kept and beautiful, there are all levels of trails to take depending on your comfort and needs. Maps are available at the starting point by the pond and parking is available at the top of Union St.

Lovers of snow rejoice! Here in Manchester, we have some of the Northeast’s finest skiing right at our doorstep. Locals love family-friendly Bromley, Magic, and Stratton Mountains. If flying down the slopes isn’t your speed, enjoy Nordic skiing on miles and miles of groomed trails through the beautiful forests of the Green Mountains at Stratton Viking Nordic Center, Wild Wings Ski, and Prospect Mountain – all within a short drive to Manchester.

Manchester is part of the statewide VAST trail which is a snowmobiler’s dream! Just off of the trail is Raven’s Den Steakhouse & Taproom where you can park your ride right in the parking lot to warm up and fuel up with some fantastic food and brews.

On days when the temperatures dip, browsing the cozy shops in Manchester is the perfect way to stay warm. New to town this holiday season is The Artisan’s Key, a boutique on Main Street. This unique shop opens the door to a curated collection of bespoke brands and products, many of which are made by local artisans. The Artisan’s Key is also currently offering private in-person or virtual shopping on Tuesdays by appointment only. For your convenience, they are also offering Curbside pick-up.

Tucked away in a cozy little barn is Knit 1 Purl 1, where you can shop a wonderful array of yarns from Berroco, Cascade, Lang, Shibui, Juniper Moon, and more. Mary-Anne Hayes & her partner, Lynne Clark, have many years of experience and can guide you towards the perfect gift for knitting enthusiasts!

For people who love to cook, Vermont Kitchen Supply is sure to delight! Proprietor Kerry Comollo Mackinnon combines her vast expertise and passion for food and community together at this popular Manchester shop, catering to home cooks, professional chefs, and restaurant owners alike.
