Barrows House Restaurant is an American restaurant and gastro pub. Our menu features traditional New England tavern fare with a modern twist that pairs beautifully with our selection of craft beers and extensive wine list. Set against the historic backdrop of a circa 1803 building, the ambiance is warm and welcoming, sophisticated yet casual, and features Dorset white marble accents and historic black & white photos from the local Norcross-West Marble Quarry. Paired with our large outdoor patio and colorful gardens, Barrows House Restaurant is the ideal setting for outdoor dining and all types of special events, including wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, and bridal showers.

Ye Olde Tavern Proprietors, Michael and Minna Brandt, welcome guests with the genteel hospitality of a bygone era. Upon arrival,  the wide plank floors, roaring fireplaces, and antique furnishings recall 18^th century New England. Stenciling throughout the restaurant recreates patterns typical of itinerant painter, Mose Eaton, whose work can be found throughout the region.

Listed with the Vermont Register of Historic Places, the tavern building was first constructed in 1790 by Dorset Master Architect, Aaron Sheldon, as The Stagecoach Inn. It catered to the likes of Vermont’s famous Green Mountain Boys, as well as a cadre of statesmen and gentry who enjoying dining and socializing in elegant period simplicity.

Menu selections include regional dishes — Yankee Pot Roast and Lobster Bisque, for example — along with traditional continental favorites. You’ll find Prime Rib, Shrimp Scampi, and Chicken Picatta on the daily menu, plus vegetarian offerings, seasonal specials, and kid-friendly options. An excellent wine list and a carefully curated selection of vintage cocktails are always available.

From its inception, Dorset Bakery has been admired for its classic American baked goods, Provincial-style decor and warm, inviting atmosphere. Our bakery features hand-made crusty breads, morning pastries, unique sandwiches, healthy salads, tasty soups, decadent sweets and more… all of our goodies are made from scratch using fresh, local ingredients. It’s the ideal stop for lunch with the ladies, a quick chat with friends over a cappuccino, a breakfast business meeting or picking up cupcakes for the kids.

Gringo Jacks Southwestern Bar and Grill has been bringing a wide and delicious variety of authentic Mexican, Tex-Mex, and Southwestern foods to Manchester for over 20 years, and we hope it’ll be at least 20 more! Situated amid the hustle and bustle of a high-end, eclectic antique and home goods showroom, this Turkish-Mediterranean restaurant is “a local secret worth knowing about.” Depot 62 offers a totally organic menu for lunch, dinner, and dessert, along with an excellent, appropriate selection of wines by the glass. Located on Main Street, Lost Marble Brewing Company is Manchester’s first craft brewery. A perfect destination for neighbors and visitors to gather for freshly brewed beer and enjoy a menu of tap room favorites, such as the Lost Burger, wings, pizzas from our oven, and a guest favorite, our extra-large soft pretzel with housemade beer fondue.

The warm and welcoming ambiance of the Dorset Inn’s historic dining room, and the cozy New England tavern, near Manchester VT, allows guests to relax and enjoy the food, the wine, and the friendly Southern VT hospitality. As a member of Vermont Fresh Network, we support as many local farms and businesses as possible, and our food includes the freshest ingredients. Our cuisine is uncomplicated, and bistro-style. It demonstrates classic culinary techniques and traditions, with regional Southern Vermont influences. To showcase Vermont’s four unique seasons, the menu changes frequently.

Breakfast is served Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8am – 10am. Certain days may be at The Dorset Bakery depending the time of year. Please check with the front desk for location. 

Sunday Brunch is served from 11am – 2pm each week. The menu will feature entrees from our breakfast menu, along with weekly brunch specials.
