Escape to Romance
A romantic winter getaway
What’s more romantic than a wintry weekend where you can stroll and shop amidst snowy scenery and snuggle close inside a horse-drawn sleigh? These local spots to sip champagne, stretch your legs, and celebrate are the perfect way to spend quality time together.
First things first, plan your stay.
Wherever you land, you can’t go wrong. There are incredible inns, boutique hotels, and vacation rentals to choose from. But, we love Casablanca’s cozy cabins with their retro vibe and affordable rates. Innkeepers Diane and Linda are consummate hosts and know everything about everything MVT. If you’re game for a splurge, Taconic’s Stay and Savor includes the room of your choice at our new Kimpton Hotel and a $50 F&B credit to the Copper Grouse. At either place, pets are welcomed like guests so you can bring your furry family along.
After check in, a dinner date.
Try the cozy Ye Olde Tavern for traditional regional dishes and an excellent wine list or choose Season’s for locally-inspired, and aptly named, seasonal dishes that are both a local and visitor favorite. For a flirty follow-up, go for cheese & chocolate at the Equinox’s Falcon Bar.
Elevate your MVT morning.
Start off on the path to Equinox Pond. And if weather permits, take the steep but brief climb to Robin’s Lookout for big time views. Hold hands, breathe deep, and sing out sweet nothings with only the trees to hear. In the afternoon, heat things up with a hot glass lesson for two at Manchester Hot Glass. A couple of Ben Franklins get you a private class (offered Thurs-Sun) and you’ll each make a piece to take home. After that, a little spoiling. For him, gear at the Goat. For her, artsy gifts from Long Ago and Far Away or a sexy something from the Manchester Designer Outlets. With our world-class brands and fab family-owned shops at your fingertips, you’re guaranteed to find something you can’t resist.
Just for two.
In between shopping and sledding (that’s next) grab a seat at Union Underground in town for a pint or cocktail. Sip a signature drink and share a spicy dish. Then, a ride through the hills! Merck Forest’s Sweetheart Sleigh is built just for two. The 45-minute ride is a perfect excuse to snuggle close while you soak up the views. If you go, dress for winter weather. Merck provides Vermontey lap blankets, hot drinks, and a cozy fire at the Visitor’s Center when you’re done.
We’re pretty sure our small town vibe with big town amenities will make you want to steal away for a weekend of romance, again and again. It may not be Paris, or Venice, or Prague but you can be here by dinner.
