Manchester Vermont’s Four Absolutely Instagram-able Inns

Stunning Manchester Vermont Inns You Have to See to Believe

The quintessential inns of Manchester offer history, luxurious amenities and Vermont romance. With many of the foundations dating back to the late 1800’s, the local inns have been upgraded to provide modern day features while maintaining their old world charm. A stay in Manchester will have you feeling as if you’ve transported back in time to the turn of the century.

Steeped in rich history, the Wilburton Inn has been owned and operated by the same family for over 30 years. As the story (and Wilburton theme song) goes, in 1987 Georgette and Dr. Albert Levis dined at the inn to celebrate his 50th birthday – and left as owners. Together, they’ve brought a joyful, creative family spirit to the inn and the tradition has been carried on by their children, Melissa, Max, and resident fido, Jetson, (their “canine concierge”). With a grand feel that would make any Gatsby fan swoon and sweeping views, it’s no wonder why CNN named it one of the ‘Top 8 Elegant U.S. Mansion Hotels.’ With experiences on-site like murder mystery parties, sing-a-longs, doggy slumber parties, and more, you are sure to show up to the Wilburton as a guest and leave as family.

Situated close to all of the excitement of Downtown Manchester is the Barnstead Inn. Recently renovated with a bright and spacious, yet cozy atmosphere, guest rooms are tucked into a New England carriage house circa 1830. Barnboard, warm whites, weathered exposed wood beams and an outdoor firepit make a stay at the Barnstead Inn something from a magazine. Locally made toiletries by Dorset Daughters are complimentary in all of the rooms and for furry guests, dog biscuits come from Wagatha’s bark-ery just down the road. A recent amenity added to this downtown Manchester destination includes the Stonewall Tavern boutique bar which tantalizes with signature cocktails, craft beers, and a light fare menu perfect for après. With weekly live music and gift shop featuring local favorite producers you’ll find your fill of all things Vermont at the Barnstead Inn.

Settled amidst Manchester Village’s old mansions is the Inn at Manchester which has a history dating back to 1888. Lovingly restored, each of the 21 guest rooms on site have their own individual character and charm. With numerous cozy sitting areas, you’re sure to find a nook to curl up in with a good book. Whether you stay in the Main Inn, Carriage House, or Celebration Barn, each morning, guests gather in the light-filled dining room for a delicious farmhouse-style Vermont breakfast. French toast, quiche and the Inn’s famous cottage cakes will fill you up before you head off on your day’s mountain (or town) adventures. At the end of the day, warm your bones by the fireplace or decompress with a delicious cocktail as you cozy up in the living room style pub. When the day is done, climb into bed and under the Inn’s famously luxurious linens. These sheets can’t be bought in a store but you can buy a set from the gift shop to remind you of the charming Inn at Manchester.

Just outside of main hustle and bustle, and built in 1764, the Inn at Ormsby Hill is one of the oldest structures in Manchester. Legend has it that Ethan Allen hid in this home during the Revolutionary War. The house also may have served as a safe house for the Underground Railroad. Today, this 4-Diamond inn boasts all of the amenities that modern vacationers seek. Luxurious bathrobes, steam showers, jacuzzi baths, private decks, and four-poster beds make a stay at the Inn at Ormsby Hill extra posh. With only ten guest rooms and private dining tables, romance is the operating philosophy at this dreamy bed and breakfast. For a truly royal experience, book a room in the Frances Suite which faces east and affords sweeping panoramic views of the mountains. With ample space (which can accommodate two massage tables) the Frances Suite features his and her bathrooms, French doors leading to a private balcony, a comfortable sitting room, antique king four-poster bed and flat-screen televisions you may never leave your suite at the Inn at Ormsby Hill.

Updated, sophisticated and picturesque, the inns of Manchester Vermont offer an unparalleled guest experience in a town rivaled by few others!
