Hildene, the Lincoln Family Home will be decorated throughout the month of December to evoke Christmas Eve 1912 – one of a handful of years that the Lincoln Family spent in residence at their Vermont home.

Taconic Music – New Year’s Family Concert

Saturday, 12/30, 2pm- 3pm

Taconic Music premieres work by former student at its 12/30 Family Concert

Taconic Music invites the public to bring children, grandchildren and kids-at-heart to the Manchester Community Library on Saturday, December 30 at 2pm for a 45-minute Family Concert with the Taconic String Band, led by Artistic Directors Joana Genova and Ariel Rudiakov. Strings for Kids violin and cello students will join the professional musicians for a side-by-side performance for several tunes.

Along with festive classical and jazzy music, there will be a premiere of a piece written by Jade Marantz. Jade, who grew up in West Pawlet, studied violin with Deanna Baasch at Strings for Kids, graduated from Long Trail School, and is currently a composition major at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music.

Suggested donation at the door; Adults $10; kids free.

Taconic Music – New Year’s Celebration

Sunday, 12/3: 5pm- 6:30pm

Taconic Music features guest soprano at its New Year’s Celebration concert

Taconic Music’s eighth annual New Year’s Celebration concert will take place at The Inn at Manchester’s Events Barn, with a cash bar beginning at 5pm. Attendees are encouraged to dress up for the night and come a little earlier for a festive drink and lively music to kick off their New Year’s Eve festivities.

The concert features a nine-piece string band plus drummer Michael Rudiakov, led by Taconic’s Artistic Directors Joana Genova and Ariel Rudiakov. The band is composed of accomplished musicians from as far as Boston, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland and as near as Albany, Wallingford, and Manchester. The hour-long program will feature light classical and Baroque favorites, tangos, and jazzy tunes, and end with a Viennese waltz and the traditional Radetzky March.

A special guest this year is soprano Evangelia Leontis who will sing the hauntingly beautiful Bachiana Brasileira No.5 by Heitor Villa-Lobos, If I Were a Bell from “Guys and Dolls” and What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve, especially arranged by the Northshire’s own Neil Freebern.
