Vermont 250th Film Screening: Lost Nation with Director Jay Craven
Free Screening of Lost Nation (2024)
Presented as part of the Vermont 250th celebrations
Hosted by the Manchester Historical Society & Manchester Community Library
Special appearance by Director Jay Craven
Join us for a special free screening of Lost Nation, the latest feature film from award-winning Vermont filmmaker Jay Craven, presented in honor of the 250th anniversary of the Vermont Republic. This event is co-hosted by the Manchester Historical Society and the Manchester Community Library.
Set during the turbulent era of the American Revolution, Lost Nation tells the intersecting stories of Vermont founding father Ethan Allen and pioneering poet Lucy Terry Prince. Actor Kevin Ryan (TV’s Copper, Harry Wild) portrays the defiant Allen, whose bold and often controversial actions helped shape the early Vermont Republic. Kenyan actress Eva Ndachi (Beautifully Broken) delivers a powerful performance as Lucy Terry Prince, the first known African American poet and a determined advocate for justice on the early Vermont frontier.
Shot on location across Vermont and Massachusetts, Lost Nation brings to life the drama, rebellion, and human complexity of a little-known chapter in American history. With 43 speaking roles, rich historical detail, and sweeping battle scenes, the film captures both the personal and political struggles that defined Vermont’s fight for independence.
Director Jay Craven, whose films have been screened at Sundance, Lincoln Center, and in over 50 countries worldwide, will be present for a post-film discussion.
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience Vermont’s revolutionary story on the big screen—and to engage with the filmmaker behind it.
The Bennington Regional 250th Anniversary Committee is a volunteer group coordinating commemorative efforts across Bennington County, nearby New York, and southwestern Vermont in preparation for the 250th anniversaries of 2025–2027. As part of the statewide Vermont 250th effort, the committee collaborates with local, state, and national partners and operates through quarterly meetings, a monthly steering committee, and focused task forces. Two members also serve on the Vermont 250th Anniversary Commission, appointed by Governor Phil Scott.
