Two Sides Of A Dream: Adrien Broom

September 4, 2020 @ 5:00pm-7:00pm

Exhibition on View: September 5 – November 1, 2020
Opening Reception: Friday, September 4, 2020 from 5 – 7 p.m.

SVAC will host an exhibition, Two Sides of a Dream, by internationally known photographer and set designer Adrien Broom. Broom’s work infuses a sense of magic and wonder into the images she creates.

The exhibition will feature two of Broom’s recent bodies of photographic work. The first, Holding Space, will feature photographs of staged scenes in historic estates and homes of artists and writers. These spaces include the Wentworth Woodhouse, The Pollock-Krasner house, the Alice Austen house, and the Mark Twain house. Excitingly, she will also be creating new work from this series for this exhibition — the subject being the Robert Frost house in Bennington, Vermont.

The second series, The Color Project, showcases Broom’s story-telling through photographs created from elaborately constructed fairytale-like sets. The Color Project tells the story of a girl named Annie and her quest to find color as she wakes up in a colorless world. As part of the exhibition, Broom will create a site-specific interactive environment for visitors to enter and photograph.

Broom received a BA in Computer Animation from Northeastern University. Her work has been exhibited at the Florence Griswold Museum (CT), Hudson River Museum (NY), Coral Gables Museum (FL), Edward Hopper Museum (NY), at Art Basel in Switzerland, and other institutions in the US and abroad. Her commercial work includes brands such as Modern Trusseau, Phillips/Disney, and Badgley Mischka.
