Manchester Players to read “THE WHOLE SHEBANG”
By Jason Odell Williams
Tuesday, September 24th at 5:00 pm at Bonnet & Main
The Whole Shebang was inspired by a June 4, 2017 New York Times article that reported
on an Ohio high school student who challenged her teacher’s assertion that global warming
is man-made! The student left class for good after the teacher showed a documentary about
how human activity has led to drastic climate change.
Kate (a straight-A, Ohio high school senior) stops attending her AP Science class and
holds to her beliefs that climate-change is part of God’s plan.
As a series of storms hits their small town, Kate’s friends, family and teacher try to
convince her to come back to class. They want her to decline an invitation to appear on
The Ash Powers America Hour, a popular, right-wing radio talk show, to discuss her bold
decision. But Kate cannot make up her mind, she keeps having flashbacks of her father
telling her coal provided good, clean jobs and climate change was a hoax.
Will Kate stick to her guns even as a literal flood of evidence rises around her? Or will she
see finally stand up for what’s right, no matter the cost? The Whole Shebang, is a darkly,
comic play about our core beliefs, our changing planet, and what we choose to value most.
The reading will take place at the Northshire Bookstore cafe, Bonnet & Main, and will
feature local, professional actors and drama students from Jim Raposa’s drama class at
Burr and Burton Academy. It is open to the public and donations are accepted.
