Join Hildene staff to discuss Candice Millard’s Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President on the life and assassination of James A. Garfield. Robert T. Lincoln served as Secretary of War under President Garfield and played a critical role running the government while Garfield struggled to recover.  When he succumbed to his wounds, Robert was the only cabinet member whom President Arthur retained.
