Green Mountain Academy welcomes back Eugene Uman, the director of the Vermont Jazz Center, to continue his talk about the history of jazz piano, which provides a lens to experience the evolution of jazz from a distilled perspective. In this presentation, video examples will be used to see and hear how piano and jazz music has evolved from the 1940s to current times. Styles that will be discussed will include bebop and its derivatives (hard-bop, cool jazz, post-bop), Latin jazz, modal jazz, electric fusion and free jazz. Using the piano as an arbiter, we will examine the influence of other cultures on jazz and finish up with examples that demonstrate the reciprocal relationships between jazz and current styles like hip-hop and jam band music. Registration is $15 in advance or $20 at the door. For more information or to register, please call 802-867-0111 or visit www.greenmtnacademy.org.
