Join Bill Badger to explore the history of marble transportation in Dorset and Danby. To address the problem of transporting large marble blocks down the steep mountainsides, inclined railways were built to lower the blocks down to the valley floor. From there, they would be finished or transported to finishing plants. This presentation will examine both operations and provide context for the historical significance of these railway innovations from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
