GMALL Presents Vermont State Parks: A 100-Year Journey

August 20, 2024 @ 5:30pm-7:00pm

Learn about the past, present and future of Vermont’s State Park system. Our mighty little state is blessed with a high number of state parks. At 100 years, the park system is taking stock of how it got to this point and looking forward to what is ahead. McKeen will share information about the park system, the significance of the centennial celebration, and what was learned from the recent comprehensive Parks Modernization Study. We will also learn about Vermont Parks Forever, the not-for-profit partnering foundation of Vermont State Parks.

Nate McKeen is Director of Vermont State Parks. Growing up in Maine at the foothills of the White Mountains, he studied at the University of Maine, where he earned a B.S. in Forestry and Recreation. He worked in parks in Connecticut, Vermont, and West Africa. In 1993, he moved to Vermont and worked as a seasonal park manager at Little River State Park in Waterbury. He has served in various roles with Vermont Forests, Parks, and Recreation, as well as at Jay Peak Resort and the Shelburne Museum. He lives in Weathersfield with his wife, two daughters and various animals.
