Equinox Village is happy to return to Gallery Openings on the Third Thursday of every month. This opening will feature works by Heather Bellanca. The Opening is scheduled for Thursday, June 17th from 5 – 6 p.m. There will be live violin music performed by Harriet Welther, as well as appetizers and other refreshments. This is a free event open to the vaccinated public. We will need to see proof of vaccination upon entering. We apologize for this inconvenience, but this is out of safety for our resident population.
Heather M. Bellanca
Born in Montana by a fluke, I grew up in Middlebury, Vermont and consider myself a Vermonter. My favorite childhood activities involved drawing and/or making things and my career vision was illustrating. But being a person interested in everything, in addition to the arts, I graduated from the University of Michigan with credits all over the map. (Whoever thought it was wise for a 17 year old to make decisions about her future?!)
I have kept my creative juices flowing with a lifetime of freelance projects and border in Salem, NY in the energy-efficient, next-stage-of-life house I designed to include a studio with a view over an ever-changing, rural landscape with a sky of soaring hawks, crows and buzzards. Our two children are grown and flown the coop so we nurture chickens, two horses and a charismatic cat.
The summer I retired from the bookstore the artist Joan Duff Bohrer invited me to join her at her barn home/studio to paint once a week. I explained that I didn’t really paint but would love to give it a try. Every painting is a learning experience which I try to tackle 4 or 5 days a week.
I’m all over the map in my learning process & subject matter – trying still lifes, figurative, landscape and occasional non-representational expressions. I often work from photos of local scenes that are near and dear. The more I learn, the more I learn there is to learn. Thanks for coming to see my student work!
