Please join us for a special story time!
The Southern Vermont Arts Center is delighted to bring you Elizabeth Winthrop, award-winning author of more than 60 books for children and adults! Join Elizabeth on Zoom for her virtual visit.
Among Elizabeth’s honors is the Dorothy Canfield Fisher award–bestowed annually by Vermont’s children on their favorite book. In 2007, Counting on Grace, another of Elizabeth’s novels, was the Vermont Reads Book of The Year.
For this SVAC storytime, Elizabeth has chosen one of her own favorites, Dumpy La Rue, which she wrote about a pig who knows what he wants–to dance. After reading her book, Elizabeth will take some questions about the story and what it’s like to be an author. Children are welcome to ask spontaneous questions, but they may have more fun if their adults brainstorm with them in advance.
“There is nothing more adorable than a dancing pig. Dumpy La Rue is a star!”
-Jacques d’Amboise Founder of National Dance Institute and former principal dancer with the New York City Ballet
“The musical quality of the text makes it a perfect read-aloud. Through Dumpy’s warmth and enthusiasm, children will meet a youngster who marches to the beat of his own drummer, and who encourages others to do so as well.”
-School Library Journal Starred Review
Joining the Zoom meeting is free; any donations will be split between SVAC and Shire Kids, a nonprofit dedicated to early childhood literacy in Vermont.
