On Saturday, February 15 meet at 9 am at the very end of Tower Rd in Dorset. Dorset Mountain hike is about a 6.5 mile out and back hike to the top of Dorset Mountain. The trail follows a brook for much of the way up and passes through a variety of forest as well as the legendary Dorset Mountain Doorknob. There is now a view at the top looking north towards Danby and beyond. Snowshoes or skis would be preferable unless the snow cover is shallow. Skiing down can be challenging in parts and should really only be attempted by the experts. The hike leader is planning on this a snowshoe trip. If you choose to use backcountry skis, you are on your own to go downThe trail is difficult, with an elevation gain of 2400 ft, some of which is fairly steep. Bring extra layers, a wool or fleece hat, snacks, lunch, fluids. Poles would be helpful. RSVP required to Greg Hopper at 917-287-0246 or gbhopp85@gmail.
