Northshire is pleased to partner with VTDigger as they present an evening with author, historian, and journalist Jill Lepore. She will explore the current state of our democracy in historical context, as well as the critical role a free press plays in a self-governing society. This is a free event but registration is required.
Jill Lepore has been a prominent voice in American journalism since 2005, contributing insightful and thought-provoking pieces to The New Yorker. Lepore will discuss the importance of local journalism, its impact on our communities, and the role it plays in preserving democracy. Additionally, the conversation will explore the current state of our democracy in historical context, as well as the critical role a free press plays in a self-governing society. This is a unique opportunity to hear from one of the leading scholars in American history and engage in a meaningful conversation about the future of local news. VTDigger will discuss their mission and work, and the challenges and opportunities they see on the road ahead. VTDigger and Lepore will talk about why Digger believes so strongly in the nonprofit model for news, and how a sustainable local news ecosystem is especially critical at a time when our democracy feels threatened.
Jill Lepore is the David Kemper ’41 Professor of American History at Harvard University and a staff writer at The New Yorker. A two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist, her many books include the international bestseller These Truths and If Then, which was longlisted for the National Book Award.
