American Stories from Shelburne Museum: Rethinking Objects in a Virtual Era

July 14, 2020 @ 5:30pm-7:00pm

Date: Tuesday, July 14, 2020

Time: 5:30 pm-7:00 pm

Location: via Zoom

Fee: $10 in advance

What happens when visitors can’t visit a museum – and its collections – in person? How are Vermont’s cultural institutions grappling with the sweeping changes brought to the cultural landscape in the post-Covid era? Join associate curator Katie Wood Kirchhoff for a conversation about the creation and goals of Shelburne Museum’s first “born digital” exhibition, American Stories. Created by a team of specialists working from home and staying connected via technology, the project highlights four dozen of Shelburne Museum’s most beloved objects as they relate to themes of people, travel, home, and community. Kirchhoff will share a little bit about the creation and execution of the project, and lay the groundwork for a conversation centering on some of the major challenges facing museums as we negotiate this new era together.
