Adapting Shakespeare for Modern Audiences

August 11, 2025 @ 5:00pm-6:00pm
Free

Join Shakespeare in the Woods for a special community event discussing what it means to produce Shakespeare through a “modern, radical, and gender expansive queer lens”. 2025 season directors Roberto Di Donato (Richard II) and Michael Alvarez (Love’s Labour’s Lost) will discuss their approach to adapting Shakespeare’s original texts for contemporary audiences and what impact SitW’s artistic ethos has on their direction of the shows. Actors from the upcoming repertory season will also share what goes into breathing new life into 400+ year-old characters that feel fresh and relevant to 2025. This is a moderated event that will also include an audience Q&A.

Shakespeare in the Woods’ 5th anniversary season, featuring Richard II and Love’s Labour’s Lost, runs in repertory August 13th – 31st, outdoors at The Equinox Golf Resort & Hotel. For all company & production information, and to purchase tickets, please visit: https://www.shakespeareinthewoods.org/
