Join Us for an Exciting Weekend of History and Adventure – May 3-4

Step back in time and follow in the footsteps of Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys during a weekend of celebrations across the Southshire and Northshire of Southwestern Vermont! From May 3-4, immerse yourself in local history, exciting events, and family-friendly fun as we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Green Mountain Boys’ remarkable journey.

Saturday, May 3 – A Day Full of History and Fun Kick off your Saturday with a Liberty Pole flag-raising at 10 AM at the Pownal Town Offices, then embark on a full day of activities stretching from Pownal to Shaftsbury. Highlights include the Southern Vermont HomeBrew Festival, re-enactments, musket drills, live demonstrations, info tables, and special 250th anniversary merchandise. At 4 PM, witness a thrilling skirmish at the historic Jonas Galusha House in Shaftsbury.

Sunday, May 4 – Northshire Celebrates the Green Mountain Boys The festivities continue in the Northshire! Explore the historic towns of Arlington, Sunderland, Manchester, and Dorset while taking part in guided tours, engaging talks, musket salutes, and a special ceremony in Pawlet, marking the passing of a ceremonial powder horn. This horn symbolizes the famous capture of Fort Ticonderoga by Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys in 1775.

For the Adventure Seekers
Why not make it a day of moving through history? Join the Bike Hub for a group bike ride starting at 10 AM from the Liberty Pole ceremony in Pownal, continuing to the Jonas Galusha House event. A volunteer biker will carry a commemorative powder horn, just like the Green Mountain Boys of old. Or, lace up your running shoes for a fun run on Sunday afternoon through historic Arlington, starting at the junction of Route 313 and Route 7A, where you’ll pass through the town’s most historic sites.

There’s something for everyone! Whether you’re a history buff, outdoor enthusiast, or family looking for fun, this weekend offers it all. For more information, visit bennington250.org or email bennington250@gmail.com. Don’t miss this unforgettable celebration!
