Backroad Discovery Tours
Experience Vermont in Every Season
If you’ve only got a short time to spend with us in Manchester but you’re thirsty for all things Vermont, let Backroad Discovery Tours show you around and quench that need for VT knowledge with tips on local adventures, attractions, food, and more from the comfort of a 10-passenger tour vehicle.
For summer and fall visitors, “The Southern Vermont Sampler” & “The Fall Foliage Sampler” tours start at 1pm and return at 4pm, daily. Expect to see sweeping mountain/valley vistas, the oldest marble quarry in the U.S., quintessential Vermont villages, a 3100-acre farm/forest preserve with outstanding views & maple syrup operation, a private alpaca farm, and the “birthplace of Vermont”.
If it’s the colder weather that brought you to us, “The Winter/Spring Sampler Tour” starts at 1pm and returns at 3pm on weekends with reservations or other days by special request. Expect to see beautiful vistas, quaint villages, an artisan’s gallery, an antique covered bridge, a maple sugar shack and a Norman Rockwell exhibit.
Those with a penchant for history will love the “Revolutionary & Civil War Tour,” given by a local author and historian who gives in-depth insight into the background and history of Bennington County. This tour starts at 9:30am and returns at 11:45am in late spring, summer, and fall.
If your travel or corporate group is visiting Manchester in your own coach or van, a step-on guide service is available. For larger groups, we suggest “The Shires of Vermont Tour,” which is the perfect for visitors of all interests and a great way to relax and take in the sights for a few hours.
No matter what the time of year you can always expect VT fun facts, fascinating history, and shopping opportunities for Vermont maple syrup, local products and gifts.

"What a wonderful way to spend our last afternoon in Manchester! Our tour driver was just great and very knowledgeable about the area! We were taken to very unique and beautiful sites that were not in the tour books. It was like going for an afternoon ride with a friend and not wanting it to end!"Phil S, Columbus, Ohio (source)
