Favorite Local Eats
We love these six restaurants for their unique vibe and adventurous menus, but also for their locations. From an artsy museum cafe to a BYOB sushi hideaway to a vintage neighborhood market, these are the way to experience MVT off the beaten path. Mingle with locals, enjoy a drink and a bite, or go for a complete culinary experience!
This old school spot on Depot Street is a favorite neighborhood market. Cases are filled with authentic, made from scratch Italian foods. Pantry shelves are stocked with imported olives, oils, vinegar, dried pasta, spices, and other essential dry goods while cold cases offer eats to bring home. Plus, amazing cheese selection, freshly baked bread, and pastries. Have lunch in or take it to go. Hours & Info.
“We stop here every time we visit Dorset and Manchester. As soon as you walk through the door, your stomach starts growling!” – Amy G, Mt. Sinai NY
“An Arthur Avenue-quality Italian deli! We stopped by on our way out of town to pick up sandwiches (ended up sitting in the self-serve dining room which was still fast) and had the best post-ski meal. Incredible Italian specialities and cold cut sandwiches. We couldn’t resist taking some of their pre-made foods home for dinner, too. Everything is homemade!” – Jessie F, Manhanttan NY
Manchester’s funkiest furniture store offers interesting art, cool fixtures, and gorgeous rugs. Plus, in the shop’s center, table seating and a wood fired oven that cranks out thin crust pizza pies and some of the best ethnic dishes you can find in the region. Open Hours & More.
“We’ve eaten all over Manchester VT and this place is so underrated because it is so humble. Execution is excellent, casual, and delicious. Great Mediterranean food. Amazing bread. Wonderful lamb and yummy pizza. Highly recommended!” FoodieCambridge (TripAdvisor)
“Been a few times & always focused on their amazing brick oven pizza. Taste of Anatolia with minced Vermont lamb, my favorite! Decided on a more formal meal on a Friday night before a book signing. As a regular of Turkish places in NYC, London, and Istanbul, the food was super fresh, very nicely prepared, and well served.” John M, New York NY
Friendly staff and eclectic table arrangements are perfect for a family adventure out or a romantic dinner date for two. Menu selections include family recipes and traditional dishes, and a full bar offers a long list of custom cocktails to set you right. Hours & Info.
“Appetizers and more appetizers. Some repeat orders. Three people, 200 bucks, including two bottles of wine. Great service! Would have returned to eat a second night.” QB, Canada
“Made a spontaneous stop for cocktails and enjoyed everything! Ordered martinis (Thai Basil, Elderflower) and they were spectacular. For apps, the Thai Basil roll. Exceptional!” Bee M, Milford CT
Gringo Jack’s. We love Gringo Jacks southwestern flair. The restaurant has a comfortable atmosphere and generous outdoor seating. Go for the basics, house made guac, original recipe chips, and killer margaritas, or dive all the way in with fajitas, enchiladas, and more! Hours & Info.
“Enjoyed this place, especially the dog-friendly outdoor tables. Cowboy Burger was great! Fresh and perfectly cooked. Came with a choice of sides; salad as solid. Fresh greens! Margaritas were good. Server was pleasant and brought a bowl of water for our dog.” Rob C, Buffalo NY
“Great atmosphere both indoors and out. The inside has the look and feel of a Mexican cantina while the outside (weather permitting) has great tables with umbrellas and plantings situated along the main street of Manchester. There is one particular tortilla chip which is like hard phyllo that my wife and I fight over every time we visit!” Stratton3 (TripAdvisor)
Sushi Boat. Tucked away in the Green Mountain Village Shops, this BYOB lunch spot offers up fresh authentic sushi, cooked tempura rolls, and all kinds of veg-friendly items. Owners are on-premise and behind the counter, and the nicest people you’ll ever meet! Hours & Info.
“How could I give this place any less than five stars?! Everything they serve is incredibly fresh and tasty. From the lemony mackerel to the buttery yellow tail to the ocean fresh tasting tuna and salmon. Take that NYC sushi joints! If you don’t eat here in Manchester, then you’re cheating yourself.” OrchBass (TripAdvisor)
Cilantro. Casual taco and burrito Bar located on Main Street. Street tacos, big burritos, deconstructed burritos, tacos americano and five salsas made in-house. Everything made with all-natural and locally sourced ingredients! Hours & Info.
“Every time we come down to the Vermont Open in March, we make it a must… I say a must to come stuff our faces with the bestest, freshest, tastiest GMO freeist Mexican food evah! So good we smuggle our leftovers across the border. Planning a trip to VT in August will be 45minutes away from Manchester, but will be sure to go there to get my fix.” Paul M, TripAdvisor
“If (Cilantro) opened in Boston, they’d be the best fast-casual non-chain Mexican restaurant. Great menu, flavorful eats, and perfect chips and salsa. It’s a solid call if you’re rolling with kids and want an alternative to pizza. We went back to back days because it was that good and with a two-year-old in tow, we wanted to keep things simple.” Jeff B, Boston MA
Cafe Sora. Inspired by their mother’s and grandmother’s love of cooking and community, friends Chie and Katsuko teamed up to create Café Sora. A family style café serving a range of traditional and modern Japanese dishes. Open for lunch only on the campus at Southern Vermont Arts Center. May 26 opens their summer season! Hours & Info.
“Wonderful home cooked, authentic Japanese food. Polite servers. Breathtaking mountain views from the outdoor dining area. And what a great mansion filled with art by local talent. Definitely worth the extra drive off the beaten path in Manchester. Open for Lunch only.” Val A, New York NY
“Food is delicious and the views and the magic of the museum setting is impossible to resist. They’re open limited days so make sure to plan ahead and make reservations! Treat yourself to a lovely lunch away from the ordinary and the commercial.” WaverlyWave2 (TripAdvisor)
