Our little town in the mountains is a perfect destination for unplugged adventures. But when you need a break from the trails or the slopes, these in-town family activities are at the ready.

Hildene, the Lincoln Family Home

This popular historic site has something for everyone. Explore the house and exhibits, roam the gardens and grounds, peruse the way cool Pullman Car, and visit the Rowland Agricultural Center where you can meet the Hildene goats and learn about the cheese-making process. From mid-December through March, weather permitting, you can cross-country ski and snowshoe the trails. Equipment rentals are available.

Take a break and CREATE with “kid whisperer” Stacey Gates. Her downtown studio, Manchester Arts, offers children in grades K-8 opportunities to paint, sculpt, sew, and craft in a fun, inspired setting.

Manchester Community Library

Voted one of the 50 best in the country, our public library is a terrific resource and a great rainy day hideaway. You can borrow a computer, access the WiFi network, or check out a Parks & Museum Pass. The Children’s Barn and The Loft are furnished with age-appropriate books, e-readers, games, and media perfect for young ones, tweens, and teens alike.

Northshire Bookstore

The FAO Schwartz of bookstores, with an entire floor devoted to just kids. Find picture books, classics, easy readers, and chapter books, along with comfy couches so you can read together. We love their selection of games and puzzles, and their mini-Zutano boutique! Plus, the floor is set up so kids can browse freely without worrying moms and dads. An added bonus, The Next Chapter Café is just downstairs so you can recharge and refuel the family.
