Community Theatre at its Finest
The Dorset Players are the community theatre that provides live theatre for the purpose of enriching and entertaining our community as well as growth and educational opportunities to both children and adults through a variety of theatrical experiences.
Hundreds of productions have been mounted since the theatre’s opening in 1927. Many actors, musicians, technicians and tons of volunteers have lent their talent and time. We are very fortunate to live in a community that has many fine actors, directors, and producers who volunteer their talents and skills, as well as many skilled technical people behind the sets and scenes who don’t always get public recognition but without whom there would be no production. Whether starring in the show or sweeping the stage (and many times it has been one and the same person), these volunteers are the heart and soul of our productions.
The Players have expanded far beyond their original nucleus of Dorset residents to all those in the Northshire and beyond who love theater. Their success as a community theatre is due in no small part to the generosity and support of the community through memberships, donations, ticket sales, rental income and of course, dedicated members and volunteers.
"Plays like "Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike" are meant to be fun, and this edition met that expectation and more. From chuckles to guffaws, there was something there for everyone who wanted to be amused, and who loves to laugh."Telly Halkias (source)
