Discover Depot Cafe
So you’re cruising around downtown Manchester in search of an easy, delicious meal. Something out of the ordinary. Something organic, maybe even vegetarian. If you’re not paying attention, you might comment on the pretty windows of the Depot 62 shop, but pass on by in pursuit of this lunch or dinner in question. Whoa…stop! Re-route and pull in to discover one of our favorite local gems.
At the intersection of Routes 11&30 and Richville Road, with parking access at the blinking light or opposite via Elm Street, Depot 62 is a high-end home goods store and organic restaurant all in one. On display, an array of handcrafted and curated objects, cool fixtures, and gorgeous rugs. In the shop’s center, table seating and a wood fired oven that cranks out thin crust pizza pies and some of the best ethnic dishes you can find in the region. The menu (lunch & dinner) is a mix of Mediterranean and Turkish-inspired plates. Simple, organic ingredients — like local lamb, fish, and fresh vegetables — are sublime.
We ordered small plates. Plump Roman beans with carrots, the fresh leeks, the hummus and handmade pita, perfect for scooping veggies or sopping up jus. The arugula salad was simple and bright, with apples and shavings of real Reggiano. Had the salmon (shared!) and a pizza piled with caramelized onions, fresh mozz, shiitake, and portabello mushrooms, though there were lots of other terrific choices! A nice tight wine list offers excellent pairings by the glass or bottle. Skipped dessert but hear they make a mean baklava, so next time…
For our mixed group — grownups, kids, and vegetarians among us — Depot Cafe rocked it. A relaxed and convivial atmosphere. A friendly and efficient staff. Then a browse through the interesting shop. Was perfect! And good food, whole food, without pretension (or reservations required) was a welcome find for an easy evening.
